Lydia Moss Bradley napkin ring, late 19th century

Title

Lydia Moss Bradley napkin ring, late 19th century

Description

This napkin ring, owned by Lydia Moss Bradley and engraved with her first name, demonstrates her style and hospitality. Though wealthy, Lydia lived in the same Moss Avenue house until her death. She enjoyed gardening and was noted for her love of roses. Although Lydia was often perceived as frugal, the wife of Lydia’s business manager noted that Lydia’s home was “handsomely furnished” and “full of choice flowers” and her “clothes were of the finest materials”. Lydia regularly hosted faculty and students for dinner at her home prior to her death, perhaps using this napkin ring as part of her table setting.
