Bradley Bobcat stuffed animal, c. 1994

Title

Bradley Bobcat stuffed animal, c. 1994

Description

In 1993, the Logo and Mascot Committee recommended the Bobcat mascot. A few years before, Bradley moved away from earlier mascots that appropriated Native American culture and identity, though the Braves name remained. As a mascot, the Bobcat would be gender neutral and offer an animal native to Illinois. The committee also characterized the Bobcat as tough and resourceful, though it was no match for an unreceptive community. RIP Bobcat: 1994-2000.
