This Is Black program, 1969
Title
This Is Black program, 1969
Description
This program titled “This is Black” was published by the Black Student Alliance in 1969. The program outlines scheduled events for the first Black Week on campus and features original artwork by Bradley students Cecilia Duncan and Guy Bibbs. Black Week began with the intent of promoting knowledge of Black culture and heritage. Events included lectures, forums, plays, displays, readings, and featured guest speakers, such as Muhammed Ali and Romeo B. Garrett. The BSA faced backlash for the event and other ongoing protests it supported, as evidenced by contemporary student publications such as the Scout and yearbook. BSA persisted and changed names to become Black Culture Week and now Garrett Week.
