Title

BPI Automobile Course booklet, 1916

Description

The Automobile Course in Construction-Operation, Maintenance & Repair was a year-long course first offered during the 1915-1916 school year. Applicants paid $20 per quarter with an additional deposit of $10 for tools and books. Only 20 applicants were accepted the first year, and students were required to devote seven to eight hours a day to the course. The pamphlet shown is from the course’s second year, 1916-1917. Demand for good mechanics and trained chauffeurs was high, making the program very popular. Bradley Polytechnic Institute reserved the right to drop a student who did not display an earnest desire to place schoolwork as a number one priority. The program was open to applicants as young as fourteen and as ancient as forty. Prospective students had to possess good health and at least an eighth-grade education.
