Bradley football ticket with envelope, 1970

Title

Bradley football ticket with envelope, 1970

Description

Varsity football at Bradley came to an abrupt end after 73 years in 1970. After a 1-8 season, declining interest, and years of running a financial deficit, the announcement was made on December 27, 1970. A contributing factor to the decision was that Bradley played home games at Peoria Stadium, where high school teams were given preference to dates for Friday evening and Saturday game times. The football tickets featured here belonged to Dr. Martin Abegg, president of Bradley University from 1970 to 1992. These represent the final season home games including the last one played at Peoria Stadium on November 7, 1970. Bradley won that Dad's Day Weekend game, defeating Wisconsin-Milwaukee 34 to 20.

The use of Native imagery runs through Bradley history. Please see the Introduction to this exhibit, which includes a curatorial note from the Head of Special Collections about this history.
