College Bowl trophy, 1969

Title

College Bowl trophy, 1969

Description

What began as College Quiz Bowl on NBC radio in 1953 eventually evolved into the student quiz show known as General Electric College Bowl in 1959. Two teams of four members representing various colleges and universities competed answering questions on a variety of subjects. If a team won five consecutive matches, the team then retired as an undefeated champion. In the season broadcast on NBC television in 1969-70, Bradley University's team became the first championship team of the season, and the 35th team to retire undefeated in the program's history. Team members were Ed Wehrli, history major; Gene Sidler, chemistry major; Paul Remack, history major; and Gary Roberts, economics major. Gary Roberts would go on to return to Bradley University as its 11th president in 2016. The team received the bowl featured here as a trophy to commemorate the victory.
