Description

On March 3, 1951, Bradley’s Student Council presented this autograph book was presented to the seniors on the Bradley basketball team during a ceremony after a game against Tulsa. Members of the council distributed pages throughout the city to collect signatures of the team’s supporters. This autograph book features signatures from newspaper offices, banks, theaters, radio stations, and, of course, Bradley students. The result was this leather-bound scrapbook entitled “A Salute to the Braves: From Twelve Thousand Students and Peorians.” Many notable Peorians signed including George Baseleon (Salty Sam on a local tv show), Robert McCord (Illinois Mutual), R. B. Garrett (Bradley professor), and Earl Swords, (namesake for Swords Hall). For a long time, this book lived in the Hall of Fame in the Robertson Memorial Field House. Photo by Ching Zedric.
